Popular April Fair activities: dancing sevillanas and having fun!
The April Fair is the one fair in Seville you really shouldn’t miss. Every day 500,000 visitors flock to this Fiesta of International Tourist Interest. That many people can't be wrong! But where exactly is the Feria de Abril and when does it start? Well, the festivities get under way at midnight with the traditional Alumbrao, when all the lightbulbs along the streets in the fair are slowly turned on. Before the official start, though, the huts usually offer some pescaíto, a dinner of fried fish, cheese and cold cuts. All washed down with the finest wine, beer or sherry. It is held on a huge site known as the Real de la Feria, close to the legendary Triana neighbourhood. Make sure to visit the Calle del Infierno next door, where you’ll find all the fairground attractions you could possibly imagine.
Let yourself be carried away by the flamenco spirit that fills the thousand or so huts, the horses and carts, the decked-out streets and the locals’ endless good spirit. Don’t leave without trying some rebujito, a refreshing typical Andalusian drink made with sherry and fizzy lemon and lime. After over a week of living life to the full, the Feria de Abril comes to an end with a breathtaking firework display at the city’s New York wharf. The best views are from the Puente de Triana.
