Eating Out in Prague

The majority of the food you can try in Prague is either made from meat and potatoes or soups. Some of the most typical dishes are “kuladja” a creamy potato and mushroom soup usually served in a hollowed out bread roll, “Knedliky” dumplings which can be either sweet or savoury, “goulash” a filling stew made from beef, onion, pepper and paprika. The perfect accompaniment to any meal in Prague is a perfectly poured Czech beer.

Monuments in Prague

Both the old and new quarters of Prague hide an innumerable number of secrets just waiting to be unearthed but you’ll need a lifetime to discover them all. If you visit Prague there are a few must see monuments, the Astronomical clock the figures of which move every hour and Charles Bridge which is over 600 metres long and contains more than 30 statues, among them. Legend has it, if a visitor to the city of Prague touches the statue of St John of Nepomuk their destiny is to return to the city. Other must see sights in Prague are the Old Town Bridge Tower, Old Town Square, Jewish Quarter, the Dancing House and the medieval Prague Castle which is supposedly where the crown jewels of Bohemia are hidden.

Shopping in Prague

Wandering the streets of Prague and not coming across shops selling marionettes and Bohemian crystal is virtually impossible. Traditional stores and street stalls all sell typical souvenirs of the city of Prague. On Charles Bridge, in the Old Town Square, in the street of Gold, in the castle and in fact all over the city you can find old goldsmiths and silversmiths which now sell souvenirs.

Prague for Children

There is a lot for children to do in Prague. They can start with a tour of Petrin Hil aboard the cable car, visit the mirror maze and admire the Eiffel tower in miniature. They would also enjoy a puppet show or a visit to the Black theatre. Museums don’t have to be boring; in the Chocolate Museum they can make their own chocolate and at the Toy and Puppet Museums they definitely won’t be bored.

You can finish of a tour of Prague with a visit to Kampa Island (under the Charles Bridge) where the children can run free and enjoy the open spaces or take a boat tour of the Moldova River.

Nightlife in Prague

At night Prague becomes a young city full of energy. Stare Mestro and Nove Mestro are the chosen areas fro the young to go out. If you wander along Dlouha Street it won’t take you long to realise there are a number of pubs lining both sides of the street. If you want to dance, the famous Karlovy Lazne nightclub with five storeys and an ice bar is the place to go.

Topping the list of typical drinks in Prague are, of course, beer (the Czech Republic being the worlds largest consumer) and also traditional liquors like “becherovka” made from more than 75 herbs, “slivovice” consumed after eating and made from plums, and finally mouth numbing absinthe.
