Plaza de España

Discover our apartments in Plaza España in Madrid and enjoy the city! Located between Gran Vía and Calle Princesa, Plaza España is one of the main squares in Madrid, full of life and bustling with tourists and locals all year round, either strolling through the square or resting under the shade of its trees. In the centre there are bronze statues of Don Quijote and Sancho Panza on their trusty steeds, as part of the 35-metre-high monument to Miguel de Cervantes, with a statue of the famous writer at its centre.

This emblematic square is surrounded by skyscrapers that were once the highest buildings in Spain and even in Europe, including the Torre de Madrid and the red-bricked Edificio de España. They both date from the 1950s and were designed by the Otamendi brothers. Their height and geometric shape have made them two of the most recognisable buildings in Madrid. Book your holiday accommodation in Plaza España to take a closer look.

Another must-see building is the nearby Casa Gallardo, one of the gems of Spanish Modernism graced with beautiful organic curves. Another fine building is the late-19th-century Edificio de la Compañía Asturiana de Minas.

Plaza España is in the historic city centre. If you’re travelling to Madrid and looking for a great location to stay, our apartments in Plaza España are the perfect option. This is a great area only a short walk from the main sights with excellent public transport connections.

Very close by is the Museo Cerralbo, which houses an old private collection of works of art, antiques, decorative objects and paintings, including work by Tintoretto, El Greco and Zurbarán. A must for all art lovers! The palace housing is also worth seeing for itself.

Another great reason for renting one of our apartments in Madrid in Plaza España is the impressive number of monumental buildings in the area. The nearby Templo de Debod is an ancient Egyptian temple moved to Spain brick by brick in thanks for Spain’s help in building the Aswan Dam. Over two thousand years old, it has a magic all of its own. Its esplanade offers some of the best views of the city.

The Palacio Real is the official residence of the king and queen of Spain, although they no longer actually live there. The palace is used for official events and state ceremonies. You can also visit it. This baroque palace is one of the biggest in the world and boasts priceless historical and artistic heritage in the form of paintings, tapestries, jewels, books, sculptures and more. It is surrounded by lovely gardens and next door you’ll find the Catedral de la Almudena.

Other interesting places nearby are the Plaza de Oriente, Teatro Real, Palacio de Liria and the Edificio del Senado. Although Plaza España doesn’t have any shops or restaurants, you’ll find plenty of opportunities to savour Madrid life in the surrounding streets. It’s also famous for its theatres and cinemas. So if you're a culture vulture, renting accommodation by days in Plaza España in Madrid is a great idea.
