Garraf
The national park "Garraf" has a unique vegetation and offers walkingtrails of approximately 6 to 30 km length. If you are not into walking and you would like to visit all the atractions of the surroundings, it is advisable to rent a jeep.
The most important destination is the Buddhist monastery "Sakya Tashi Ling" which is open to the public on weekends and holidays.
A wealthy merchant family, who returned from South America, built the main house of the monastery "Palau Novella," in the 19th century. They donated it in 1969 to the Buddhist community.
The monastery has a Tibetan and a Roman museum. Beside that, classes in meditation, as tai chi, yoga, massage, Qi Gong, Chakras and reiki are offered.
The little village Garraf is located at the foot of the Sierra de Coma Roja Mountains in the Garraf region and is literally a little paradise right by the sea. This romantic village consists of small bays with white sandy beaches and is maybe one of the most beautiful spots in the whole province of Barcelona.
The village is enclosed by the picturesque Garraf Mountains.
Out of season the visitor can enjoy a unique tranquillity and it seems like that time stands still, the feeling is nearly unreal.
The sleeping beauty of Garraf only wakes up during the busy summer season.
Therefore it is not surprising that over the last centuries many poets and artists have been inspired by this unique landscape.
The beach promenade consists of little, very typical wooden houses that were built by fishermen and served to store their boats.
Today these houses are privately owned and you will not find any similar to them on the whole coastline.
Going up the stairs from the beach towards the village the visitor will pass the restaurants "La Cupila" and the "El Chiringuito". Both are well known for their delicious, fresh seafood.
From their terraces the guest will enjoy some brethtaking ocean views of the coastline.
A small road connects the village of Garraf with the port. Here the visitor will find one of the major tourist attractions throughout the region, the "Club Nàutic Garraf” yachtclub.
The club has a bar, a restaurant, a swimming pool, a sauna and a fitness club.
The main square of the center of Garraf is called, "Plaça de Baró de Güell" and features the tourist office and a small local restaurant.
The small main square and the local church are conected by the "Calle de la Eglesia". The little church is guarded by a white statue of the Virgin Mary wearing a starfish on her head.
The main attraction in Garraf however is the Celler Güell, a house that was build by Antoni Gaudi and Francesc Berenguer Mestres in 1892 in the style of modernism.
Today it is a very elegant restaurant that specializes in weddings and other celebrations.
Even though the Celer Guell is a quiet expensive restaurant, it is a must to any visitor, coming to Garraf.
The very tranquil village of Garraf with its still very little frequented beach is the perfect place for the guest looking for pure and stress free relaxation.
