How to visit Paris
Paris suffers from too much traffic.
We have listed below the different means of transportation, from the most agreable (and ecofriendly) to those most restrictive (and polluting).
You call the shots!
- By subway, bus, RER or tram
Paris has a very well developed network of public transport. The preferable means to move easily around town during your stay.
The subway lines (# 1 to 14) work from 5.30 a.m. to 1 a.m. on weekdays (closing time at 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday). You can also use the 6 train lines called RER (lines A to E) for easy access to the suburbs.
The bus lines work very well. Though slower than the subway, the bus is however a more pleasant way to explore the city.

- By Taxi
A perfect match to public transport.
Attention: taxis in Paris don't have a special distinctive color! You must identify taxis from a special light on the roof of the cabs.
You can either hail taxis on the street by raising your arm, or you can phone up for one.

- By Car
... Only if you love complications or have no choice. The worst form of transport, as in all major capitals. Avoid it if possible.
