The Alcazaba (s. VIII-XI) is not only one of the symbols of the city, it is also one of the largest Arab fortress in Andalusia. Inside this building is located the Archaeological Museum, which contains valuable pieces of Phoenician and Roman times.
From the castle of Gibralfaro (XIV century), joined with the Alcazaba, you get the best views of the city, which opens out to the sea with the port and the promenade of La Farola, one of the main leisure areas in the city. In the center stands the Cathedral (XVI-XVIII), also known as "the Manquita" for its unfinished right tower. This temple, with a beautiful Renaissance style, has an interesting series of chapels that contain good examples of Andalusian images.
Malaga offers countless historical sites and typical spots like the Plaza de la Merced, chaired by the Monument to Torrijos and where is located the house where Pablo Ruiz Picasso was born. The tour through the old quarter has to include the busy Chinitas Passage, Granada Street, with the Museum of Fine Arts, or Larios Street, the main artery of the Old Town.
