Málaga Capital
Phoenicians, Greeks, Carthaginians, Romans ... major Mediterranean civilizations found in Malaga more than two thousand years ago. A privileged location for the establishment of trade routes, thanks to the strategic position of its port.
The Alcazaba (s. VIII-XI) is not only one of the symbols of the city, it is also one of the largest Arab fortress in Andalusia. Inside this building is located the Archaeological Museum, which contains valuable pieces of Phoenician and Roman times.
From the castle of Gibralfaro (XIV century), joined with the Alcazaba, you get the best views of the city, which opens out to the sea with the port and the promenade of La Farola, one of the main leisure areas in the city. At the foot of Gibralfaro castle extends the Teatro Romano, the Plaza de Toros (known as the Malagueta) and the historic quarter of the city.
In the center stands the Cathedral (XVI-XVIII), also known as "the Manquita" for its unfinished right tower. This temple, with a beautiful Renaissance style, has an interesting series of chapels that contain good examples of Andalusian images.
Malaga offers countless historical sites and typical spots like the Plaza de la Merced, chaired by the Monument to Torrijos and where is located the house where Pablo Ruiz Picasso was born. The tour through the old quarter has to include the busy Chinitas Passage, Granada Street, with the Museum of Fine Arts, or Larios Street, the main artery of the Old Town.
A good time to visit Malaga is during Holy Week. This celebration, declared in Málaga to be of International Tourist Interest, is notorious for its monumental floats and the popular enthusiasm aroused in every neighborhood.
Cospomolita, with a great atmosphere for everyone, it is a city where you can enjoy at all levels, thanks to its endless and varied range offer for a healthy and quality leisure. City for culture, sport city, a city for romance, for bullfighting, host of one of the most famous Holy week in the world and of course, for pure folklore. It also takes the form of a big business city, congresses and attractive fairs held all throughout the year.
Malaga is a city that receives thousands of visitors daily by sea, land and air, and ventures them into a world made for enjoyment, where anyone wishing to experience a complete taste of the most current flavors of the South of Spain will be for sure delighted.
Theatres, cinemas, bars, restaurants and boutiques all through the city . Increasingly positioned as a destination, not only for its world famous beaches, but as for the first level shows that fill up the annual theater schedules, for the design and quality of its cuisine and the diversity of all people who live in this amazing city.
Indisputable cradle of art and freedom, remains an inspiration for artists who decide to spend several years in this great city that has it all!
