At doorstep of Alfama a bohemian chic stop

It is on the 2nd floor (no elevator) of a typical Alfama district building and at the end of a very steep staircase, that the Casa da Sé invites guests to escape to a bohemian chic spot. Through a clever mix of genres, this apartment with high ceilings in the original timber formwork, with its beautiful old wooden floors and also original tiles offers a stopping place on the doorsteps of Alfama and at the foot of Sao Jorge Castle.

The apartment:

The Casa da Sé apartment is a two room accommodation with an area of approximately 65 m2, which can easily house a couple and their two children. All decorative features contribute to create a very special interior design atmosphere typically associated to beautiful old Lisbon buildings: high ceilings, tiles, beautiful wooden floors provide the atmosphere of the Casa da Sé.
The living room opens on a dining area and has a leather sofa bed that will provide the sleeping accommodation for two children as well as cable TV.
A nice room with a double bed, with a fashionable old wooden window overlooking the dining room, provides for a very quiet resting space. The elegant bathroom which has been completely redone in dark tones has all the necessary for your comfort. The kitchen is at the rear of the apartment and overlooks an interior courtyard, so even if somewhat dark it has all the latest appliances so you can cook your meals. But for all those who love popular cuisine, such as grilled fish, it is just as well to go down to one of the many restaurants around.

In winter, you shall find electric heaters at your disposal while the stop to the legendary tram 28 is just at the end of the street.

It is the ideal place for a business trip or simply to discover Lisbon.

Alfama

If you come to Lisbon, you cannot miss Alfama, one of the most picturesque and historical medieval neighborhood, a mesh of small tiny streets, cul-de-sacs and stone stairs. Here lives a mixed population, people of all ages, “true” lisboners or lost tourists come to visit or to listen Fado. Like in many other places in Lisbon, you’ll find here also some of the most spectacular viewpoints of the Tagus river and the city. Here you can still find various forms of traditional commerce, as well as nice quaint little restaurants and bars. From the apartment you can walk to the majority of the most popular sightseeing destinations, such as the “Castelo de S. Jorge” the “Sé” or the “Baixa Pombalina”. For transportation, walk, or go down to Santa Apolónia the main train station and its recently opened metro station, or use the popular tram n°28 that zigzags through Alfama and pursues its trip up and down the hills of Lisbon. Although of restricted access by car, there are several parking facilities nearby.

The apartment was lovely (and spotlessly clean) and the location was fabulous. The owners were helpful with neighbourhood suggestions for food and drink which helped make us quickly feel at home. Bert, Canada 11 October 2011

The location is amazing! We were in the heart of Alfama, very close to bars that stay open late and good cafes/restaurants. You can walk easily to Porto da Sol miradouro, the Castelo, and the Baixa isn't far either.  The apartment is beautifully designed, it looks as good as the photos, a great mix of traditional and modern. The size is perfect for a couple, and so much more spacious than a hotel. You look out onto the pretty cobbled streets and rooftops of Alfama. There is a cafe below the apartment that does nice pastries, a butcher next to that if you want to buy something to cook, and a general shop over the road, so you can get supplies very easily.  We stayed for 5 nights in June when it was very hot, and the flat stayed pretty cool inside, I only used the fan provided for a couple of the nights we were there. The kitchen was handy, we cooked here (not that much tho as there are too many nice restaurants).  Carly, United Kingdom 22 June 2011
