Within a palace in the very heart of Alfama

In Alfama, experiment the life of a city district which has so little changed since the 17th century. It is the right place for an unforgettable stay in the seven hill city of Lisbon. Your studio apartment is located in one of the few remaining prestigious palaces which resisted the earthquake of 1755. Cosy and calm it will be a perfect starting point for your tourist activities in Lisbon.

The area surrounding the apartment:

If you come to Lisbon, you cannot miss Alfama, one of the most picturesque and historical medieval neighborhood, a mesh of small tiny streets, cul-de-sacs and stone stairs. Here lives a mixed population, people of all ages, “true” lisboners or lost tourists come to visit or to listen Fado. Since cars can hardly enter, it is a quiet neighborhood that keeps its old world charm. Like in many other places in Lisbon, you’ll find here also some of the most spectacular viewpoints of the Tagus river and the city. Here you can still find various forms of traditional commerce, as well as nice quaint little restaurants and bars. From the apartment you can walk to the majority of the most popular sightseeing destinations, such as the “Castelo de S. Jorge” the “Sé” or the “Baixa Pombalina”. For transportation, walk, or go down to Santa Apolónia the main train station and its recently opened metro station, or use the popular tram n°28 that zigzags through Alfama and pursues its trip up and down the hills of Lisbon. Although of difficult access by car, there are several parking facilities nearby.

The apartment:

The Santo Estevão 2 apartment is located on the first floor of the privately owned, 17th century Palácio de Santo Estevão, easily recognizable by the beautiful arches that constitute its main entrance. The palace withstood the 1755 earthquake that partially destroyed Lisbon, and has been property of the same family for almost two hundred years.
The accomodation is a 30m2 renovated studio decorated with simplicity and comfort with old time charm but with all the modern amenities. Equipped with two single beds for a maximum capacity of 2 persons, it features a TV with DVD Player, a fully equipped kitchenette, a bathroom with shower and monogrammed bed linens and bathroom towels.
In wintertime it is heated with electric space heaters.

The apartement is within a car-restricted area where only taxis and residents' cars can enter. If you come by car you will only have a foot access and must park your car outside the area.

A lovely place to stay in an historical environment !
