Situated in the lower part of Chiado neighbourhood, right by the Ribeira Market and the Tagus River, the Ribeira do Rio Apartment offers you a peaceful cultural rest at the top of a building inhabited by artists and journalists.

The area surrounding the apartment:

The historical area of Chiado reaches the banks of the Tagus river. It is here, in this lower part of the city, close to the so-called “Mar de Palha” (straw sea), in an area of the city which has been entirely rebuilt at the end of the 18th century and almost unchanged since then, that you’ll find this particularly charming apartment. This “Boheme” neighborhood and its mixed atmospheres attracts a new generation of artists and has been lately the theatre of a deep rehabilitation which means you find a mix a new hype restaurants, art galleries among a few remaining harbour bars and strip clubs.
From here you reach the Praça do Comercio and the Baixa in a five minute walk. The metro station of “Cais do Sodré” will drop you at the Gulbenkian Museum in 10 minutes. Behind the building, you’ll find the Maritim Station where you can cross the River using one of those typical boats called “Cacilheiro” and the Train Station will allow you to reach the beaches along the coast of Estoril or Cascais in about 45 minutes. From the apartment, you can either go by the funicular “Bica” or walking through Rua das Flores up to Chiado and spend some time in the bars or simply have dinner in one of the numerous restaurants of the area.
For food shopping, you’ll enjoy the market across the street with fresh fish coming right from the Setubal harbor, juicy fruits and fresh vegetables.

The apartment:

Here the views over the upper side of the city, the area of Santa Catarina or the Chiado are astonishing. Going out on the balcony, you will see the 25 de Abril Bridge, the statue of “Cristo Rei” on the other side of the river. How relaxing it is, enjoying the view of the square with its small white church, peacefully seated in the sofa in the middle of art and literature books!

The apartment with more than 130 sq meters, offers the cosiest comfort of a classical apartment with high ceilings, entirely decorated with delicate taste and plenty of artistic pieces.

This confort, you will have to deserve it and climb the 4 floors without elevator of this early 19th century building. The apartment comes with 2 bedroom and a small room with an extra single bed. The large bedroom has a 160cm double bed and an extra large closet, with a door window giving access to the balcony. The smaller bedroom in green tones comes with a 140cm double bed.

Two bathrooms in classical style come both with a tub and all comfort for your convenience : hair dryer, toilet linens.

The living room/dining room is extremely bright and sunny with its 4 large door windows all with access to the balcony. Surrounded by books, but intentionally no TV, you should spend much time just dreaming, and enjoying the view over the city comfortably seated in the sofa, with the stereo music on.


Fully equipped with new brand appliances but no washing/dryer machine, the kitchen is of classical style, covered with Portuguese tiles, the traditional and wellkown “azulejos”.

In the summer or in the winter, you can use the air conditioning .
