Florence gave birth to the Renaissance and changed the way we see the world. In Florence, many of the Renaissance artists, such as Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, Giotto, Donatello or Botticelli, lived and created some of their masterpieces which can be seen here. Even if you didn’t know anything about art by the time you arrived in Florence, you would probably be leaving as an art fan.

All of Florence’s state-run museums belong to an association called Firenze Musei which sets aside a daily quota of tickets that can be reserved in advance by phoning 055.294.883 or through the website www.firenzemusei.it.

If you are in Florence for an extended stay, and intend to visit a lot of museums, it may well be worth investing in an Amici degli Uzzizi card. It costs €60, it is valid for one year and gives you unlimited access (with no queuing) to all Florence’s state museums.
