Cape Town guide - Travelling for children

Cape Town is a great place to travel with kids – there is no reason why you cant combine a love of good food with wine with a family holiday, in a setting of great natural beauty, by means of a visit to the Cape. However, most parents will know that traveling with kids can be a trying and stressful event not matter the age. Therefore, here is a guide, to kids’ activities in and around Cape Town, for all those parents that need a bit of a break.


Table Mountain
You can’t miss it!! And an obvious choice, but you really have to take the cable car to the top of Table Mountain. You can take a picnic or eat at the top.
Views from the top are spectacular.

Boulders Beach
Swimming with fluffy South African penguins at Boulders beach is a remarkable experience. Penguins aside, this is a great place to spend the day at the beach with kids, with warm currents and sheltered conditions. Just past Simons town on the False Bay Coast, a short drive from Cape Town.

Kenilworth Carting
Your kids can race a 160cc Kart around a high-tech, well maintained 300 mindoor track. The younger ones can enjoy the same adrenalin rush in a 140cc junior cart.

Butterfly world
For a peaceful and serene day out with the kids the perfect place to take them is Butterfly World. The 1000 square metre green-house boasts 500 – 800 exotic butterflies.

The Ice Station at Grand Casino
This Olympic-sized ice rink will have the kids skating away and giggling for hours on end. For smaller children there is a mini-rink too. You can also find an amazing theme park at the casino that appeals to kids of all ages.

Two Oceans Aquarium
Discover another world entirely at this wonderful waterland which showcases over 3000 living sea animals.

The Scratch Patch
Your little ones will love scratching around for treasures of colourful gemstones. You can also visit the gemstone factory in Simonston to see how the stones are tumbled, processed and polished.
