Berlin has a good and extensive public transportation network which is helpful in moving through and about this large and wide metropolis.
There are two different urban rail services. One is the U-Bahn, the subway, and the other is the S-Bahn, the regional trains. The S-Bahn has more lines and reaches places further away from the city.
Some buses are double decker. Bus number 100 and 200 pass through downtown Berlin.
There are three transport zones, A, B, and C. The AB area covers the center. Zone C covers the most distant Berlin areas.
A single ticket for the AB zone costs 2.10€ and for the C zone C 2.60€.

The all day ticket costs 6.30€ and allows unlimited travel until 3 am. of the following day.  The 7-day ticket costs 27.-€.
The Berlin 'Welcome Card' includes transport throughout the whole network as well as entry and/or discounts for many tourist and cultural sites. The 2-day card costs 16.-€, while the 3-day card costs 21.-€.

  • Taxi service
    There are taxis stops close to hotels and tourist attractions. A special Berlin taxi cab fee is the "short distance rate”, used for distances under 2 km at a flat rate of 4.-€. Taxis must be stopped on the street, they are not to be taken at the taxi stops and if you wish to use the “short distance rate” you must say so explicitly using the German expression: "Kurzstrecke".

  • Berlin Schönefeld Airport
    The airport is located 16 kilometers southwest of downtown Berlin.
    A corridor (300 m) leads from Terminal A to the train station. There is also a shuttle bus. S-Bahn S9 and S45 trains run every half hour to the Central Train Station, Hauptbahnhof, and Zoologischer Garten Station.
    Buses also depart from Terminal A. Line 162 takes you to S-Bahn Adlershof, bus 163 to S-Bahn Grünau, and bus 172 to the subway station Hermannplatz. There is an express bus that takes you to subway station Rudow. At night, there are two services: bus N60 to Adlershof and bus N46 to Kurfürstendamm and the Zoologischer Garten station. http://www.bvg.de
    Taxis can also be found at the exits of Terminal A.  A ride to central Berlin costs approximately 35/40.-€.

    Car Rental at the Airport
    At the exit of Terminal A you shall find the customer service counters of the largest car rental companies. You can reserve a car in advance through EasyTerra.
     

  • Berlin Tegel Airport
    The airport is located 8 kilometers northwest of downtown Berlin.
    There are no direct trains or underground transportation to the airport.
    Every ten minutes the airport's TXL express bus departs from the airport to Hauptbahnhof Central Station and Alexanderplatz. Also express X9 bus goes to Zoologischer Garten station. Buses 128 and 109 connect the airport to several metro stations, U-Bahn, the urban railway, and the S-Bahn. www.bvg.de
    Taxis can be found in the parking lot (PK) and at Terminal A1. A ride to downtown Berlin  costs 20.-€.

  • By bike
    Discovering Berlin on bike is not at all difficult: the streets are wide and many have special  bicycle lanes.
    Bicycles can be rented in Berlin by bike-Fahrradstation. They have their offices on the following streets: Goethestrasse 46, Friedrichstrasse 95, Auguststrasse 29A, Leipziger Strasse 56, and Bergmannstrasse 9.
