Sants
For some visitors arriving to Barcelona, Estaçio de Sants is the first part of Barcelona that they see… perhaps not the “prettiest” part of town this area does hold historical value and is worth browsing some afternoon with plenty of local cafes and restaurants and terraces where people can enjoy an aperitif… from this point visitors are well connected to the city centre….
The area itself is bordered by Eixample Esquerra (left) and Plaza Espanya and the Fira; the FIRA is Barcelona’s large conference venue; this venue is a constant buzz of activity with all year round conferences taking place. Plaza Espanya is where the famous colour fountain can be found, quite a sight with lights and music and should not be missed….
Sants was originally built to cater for the late arrivals to Barcelona, with plenty of inns and blacksmiths in the area, the city gates closed at 21.00 and travellers took refuge here till the gates were opened again; since working class folk lived here and hence the workforce that build the Modernista dream homes, this area of town helped create the wonderful architecture that we so enjoy today in the centre of Barcelona…..
