Holiday Apartments in Amsterdam

Friendly Rentals has wide range of apartments in Amsterdam. If you are travelling with family, your partner or a group of friends we are sure we have the perfect holiday accommodation to suit your needs.

Synonymous with windmills and tulips, Amsterdam is famous for its historic canals, numerous museums, mansions, bicycles, “coffee shops” and nightlife. A city full of young people but with a history that goes back to the 12th century. It is also known for being a multicultural city and is a universal symbol of tolerance and freedom.

If you are looking for an apartment in the centre of Amsterdam, we can help you. At Friendly Rentals we offer fully equipped apartments in Amsterdam complete with modern kitchen, heating, dishwasher, microwave and everything you need to make you feel completely at home. We have romantic apartments for weekend getaways and larger apartments for families and groups.

Amsterdam is at its best during summer when the temperatures allow you to tour the city, taking advantage of the sun and agreeable climate. If you like the cold, to witness the canals and the city covered under a blanket of snow is a unique experience. From your apartment in Amsterdam you can explore the canals, Anne Frank’s House, Flower Market, Rijksmuseum, the works of Van Gogh and enjoy a picnic in Vondelpark.

Eating Out in Amsterdam

In Amsterdam you can easily find food from round the world: noodles, Argentinean meats, pizzas…and a lot of fast food. Walking the streets around Dam Square, it is common to see street vendors selling the famous raw herring (“maatjes haring”) accompanied with onion and pickles or hot chips with mayonnaise served in a paper cone.

For those of you who would like a sit down meal instead of grabbing a bite on the run we recommend you try “bitterballen” (fried meatballs with mustard) or “hutspot” (a beef stew served with mashed potato and vegetables). When the temperatures drop you can warm up with the very popular and tasty pea soup, or would you be willing to try making some in your apartment in Amsterdam?

Amsterdam’s Sights

Apart from the canal side mansions, drawbridges and flower markets, Amsterdam is the European Capital with more monuments and museums per square kilometre. There are four must see sights when you visit Amsterdam: the Rijksmuseum housing the world’s largest collection of Dutch art-don’t forget to take the typical photo of I Amsterdam at the entrance, the Van Gogh Museum featuring more than 200 paintings, the Rembrandt Museum at his residence and finally Anne Frank’s House where she and her family hid from the Nazis during WWII.

Shopping in Amsterdam

If you are looking for an authentic souvenir of your visit to Amsterdam, you can’t go past a pair of clogs (“klompen”), you can even get them as key rings. Tulips in all their colours and the typical blue and white hand painted ceramics are also popular souvenirs. The best places to buy these souvenirs are the local markets including the flower market and the famous Waterlooplein. For non souvenir shopping we recommend you take a wander through the “De 9 Straatjes”, these nine cross streets linking the canals are lined with shops.

Amsterdam for Children

There is a lot for children to do in Amsterdam. You can begin at the Science Centre NEMO, a place where children can learn about technology and science through play. For the braver children they can visit the Amsterdam Dungeon, a place where history is told as if it were a horror story.

The zoo is always a good place to visit when travelling with children. The Artis Royal Zoo is Europe’s oldest and houses more than 750 species from around the world. Alternatively you can visit the Amstelpark Farm where the children can learn about animals, try different cheeses and homemade ice-creams. To end the day, take a canal boat back to your home away from home, your apartment in Amsterdam.

Amsterdam Nightlife

Amsterdam is different at night: the lights, electronic music, beer and cocktails flood the streets. The perfect place to begin a night out in Amsterdam is at the Heineken Experience, an interactive space where you can learn more about this famous brand of beer and of course, drink a few bottles. Broaden your knowledge of cocktails at the Cocktail Museum in the House of Bols, the oldest distillery in the World. If you like to dance to the latest electronic music, there are three big clubs in Amsterdam which you have to visit: Club Air Amsterdam, Escape and Paradiso.
