Shopping: general information

Valencia is a shoppers paradise. The most important area is around Colon street. You could find all the well known fashion chains and the Corte Ingles outlets in the area. There is a good selection of interesting shops and boutiques that are concentrated taking any of the streets off Colon.

You'll also find luxury, designer and big-name brands mostly along Poeta Querol street and Plaza del Patriarca – in between Colon street and the Council Hall.

More one offs, antiques, small boutiques, local artisan shops and latest street fashion spotted around the historic centre. Barrio El Carmen of Valencia. If you are looking for something special; you could pay a visit to the city streets flea markets where you will find a variety of articles, from antiques to cloths.

Shopping: opening hours

Most shops are closed on Sundays, with half days on Saturdays up until around 2pm. Weekdays most are open until around 8pm and the shops close for a long lunch between 2pm and 4pm.

The largest fresh food market in Europe built on a modernist building is located in the old historic centre of Valencia. The area is full of atmosphere from de Spanish old neighbourhoods. You will find the smell of food from the bars and restaurants near by. Old traditional shops, traders and antiques can be found as well.

Plaza Redonda; Plaza Lope de Vega, s/n:
A very unique square in the historic centre of Valencia, where you will feel the atmosphere from the 19th Century. On Sundays is an open air flear market of many different items.

Mercado Colón; Calles Cirilo Amorós y Jorge Juan - Valencia; +34 963 525 478, ext. 4223:
It has just been renovated and refurbished and is a jewel of modernist architecture. An excellent place to dine, have a drink or shop in a very relax and interesting atmosphere.

Shopping: magazines and newspapers

These can be found in most European languages along the kiosks and stalls along Colon Street. FNAC (a French chain) in Guillem de Castro – off San Agustin Church also carries a large international newsstand with books with French and English sections, as well as in El Corte Ingles outlets along the way.
