Those of you who like tango and will be in Rome this Autumn are in for a treat because the Auditorio Parco della Musica will be hosting the Buenos Aires Tango 2010 dance contest between the 8th and the 19th of October this year. It is the one of the largest Italian music, song and dance contests to be celebrated in Rome.
In addition, this year the contest will be paying tribute to 200 years of Argentina and 100 years of tango, the sensual and complex musical genre that originated from a lover’s embrace. Tango also reflects sorrow and the melancholy of love which is reflected in the way couples dance the tango.
Twenty five events are lined up in this contest organised by the “Fondazione Musica per Roma” in collaboration with the city of Buenos Aires, in addition to tango dance classes, conferences and exhibitions. Not only that, the “Club de Tango in Teatro Studio” a tango bar based on the most emblematic bars in Buenos Aires has returned. Those who attend will have the opportunity to dance with some of the most famous Buenos Aires dance artists. In the same way, the bar will be hosting the “Milongas en la cávea” involving outdoor music being played to accompany the dance steps of the couples late into the night.
Amongst the most popular events lined up for this contest is the reunion of Néstor Marconi y Julio Pane, two of the most important bandoneón players (large accordion type instrument typical of Argentina) today, in addition to the performance from the “Orquesta El Arranque”, one of the most important tango orchestras comprising young musicians from all over the world. To their delight, these performances and many more will make lovers of this music so profoundly sad and nostalgic in a contest that attempts to fit in the best examples of this very Argentinean genre of music.
