Primo Maggio, a gigantic annual music festival held in Piazza San Giovanni is to be
celebrated this 1st of May (Labour Day) in the Italian capital, Rome. Set up in 1989,
Primo Maggio has fast become one of the major and most anticipated activities
on the Roman cultural calendar, as well as a major national and international
event due to the fantastic line up every year and the presence of some of the
top Italian musicians on the music scene, all heavily covered by TV and the
press.

Rome celebrates the arrival of spring
with this prestigious festival featuring especially rock music guaranteed to
please rock and live music lovers. And, visitors can expect many artists
lining up to perform on stage, who are occasionally joined by a high profile
guest artist.

In
addition, this year marks the 150th anniversary of the unification
of Italy
thus, there is a special theme for the 2011 edition which is “We are
history-History, Country,Work”. Furthermore, to commemorate this important
anniversary famous film composer Ennio Morriconne will be conducting the piece
“Elegy for Italy”,
on a recently refurbished stage, which he composed himself especially for the
concert.
The line up
is only released a few days prior to the festival but if this year’s event is
anything like past editions then visitors can expect performances by the likes
of Hard-Fi and Marlene Kuntz.
To
conclude, what used to be an occasion for worker’s meetings and marches is now
more of a celebration, with this free festival in addition to other free
concerts and events throughout the city of Rome.
