The 5 best Neapolitan pizzerias in Milan

The smell of oregano, delicious soft pizza base and melted mozzarella fills the air….Pizzas are one of the most popular and common dishes in Italy. And, although Italian cuisine is very varied, everyone that travels to Milan wants to try an authentic Italian pizza. Thus, we would like recommend some of the best pizzerias in Milan.

Milan is a city with an abundance of restaurants and a good many are pizzerias offering you a wide variety to choose from. They say that the best ones are Neapolitan pizzas as Milan is where they originated from back in the 17th century. Therefore, all the pizzerias that we have chosen in Milan are Neapolitan so that you can get the most original taste. You will also find typical Neapolitan starters in these pizzerias. The most popular comprise fried fish or vegetable dishes including “panzerotti” (tomato and mozzarella pastries), “mozzarella in carrozza” (fried mozzarella sandwich), “crocchè di patate” (potato fritters) and “sciurilli” (fried courgette flowers).

The five best Neapolitan pizzerias in Milan
LA COCCINELLA - A small and pleasant restaurant located in the heart of the Isola – Garibaldi district. Pizzas baked in a wood-fired oven topped with buffalo mozzarella for that final exquisite touch are on offer here. The service is good, the food high quality and the prices reasonable. It is quite popular so it is better to book in advance. Where:Piazza Tito Minniti 8.

LA TAVERNA – For many, this is the best pizzeria in Milan. The pizzas served here are authentic Neapolitan pizzas with a thin base and a high, crunchy crust. They also serve pizzas with deep-filled crusts. It is a very popular and crowded pizzeria. Where: Via Anzani, 3.

PUPPIRICCHIELLO – A Neapolitan restaurant, located a little further out from the centre, but offering food at very reasonable prices. One of their specialities is “friarielli y salsiccia” (rapini and Italian sausage) Neapolitan pizza. The desserts there are also delicious and we recommend that you try the “pastiera” (a typical Neapolitan sweet made with ricotta cheese and rice) or the “torta caprese” (with chocolate and almonds). Where:Piazzale Giovanni dalle Bande Nere, 9.

PICCOLA ISCHIA - This Neapolitan pizzeria, which opened in 1997, can now boast three more in Milan. It has quite a laid back atmosphere and serves pizza in three formats: small, medium or large. The last one is enormous so we advise that you don’t order it unless you’re really hungry! Where: Via G.B. Morgagni, 7. Viale Umbria, 60.

I CAPATOSTA – Located in the Naviglio Grande area, full of restaurants, bars and pizzerias, thus it is difficult to choose a place to eat. I Capatosta is a Neapolitan pizzeria with a pleasant atmosphere selling pizzas at very reasonable prices considering where it is situated. The delicious pizzas that they offer are baked in a wood-fired oven. Where:Alzaia Naviglio Grande, 56.
