Free access the last Tuesday of the month at the Pinacoteca de Brera museum
Following its success last autumn, the MiBAC (Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities) will be organising Art Tuesday again this year. Well, it comprises special opening hours in the evening and free access to the main museums in Italy, the last Tuesday of the month.
The Pinacoteca di Brera museum, the most important museum in Milan, is also participating in the project. Thus, if you are travelling to Milan, remember that up until the end of the year, you will be able to access the museum for nothing on the following days: September the 27th, October the 25th, November the 29th and December the 27th.
You can get in free from 7:30pm to 11pm (doors close at 22:40pm).
The Pinacoteca di Brera, located a few metres away from the city centre, is a must on your to to-do list. It has one of the most important collections of antique and modern paintings in the world, in particular the Italian paintings. In its exhibition halls you can admire the most lasting works of great artists such as Rafael, Canaletto, el Greco, Rubens, Rembrandt, Mantegna and Tiziano.
The collection is distributed throughout more than thirty rooms and organised in special chronological and geographical order. The Palazzo di Brera houses the museum, a magnificent 17th century building that hosts other cultural institutions such as the Astronomical Observatory, the Botanical Gardens and the Academy of Fine Arts.
The Brera district is also one of the most bohemian areas in Milan, with numerous brand stores, and open-air restaurants and café. It is surrounded by 17th century buildings and is a beautiful place to go for a walk and enjoy the local atmosphere after visiting the museum.
