Madrid Carnival 2012
Madrid Carnival is one of the most anxiously events of the year. From the 17th to the 22nd of February, the Spanish capital will be preparing for one of the largest celebrations to be held this year as indicated by the festival motto “un carnaval bestial” (a huge carnival).
Most typical to feature in Madrid carnivals are concerts, dressing up competitions, street parades, chirigotas and the popular Burial of the Sardine. This edition is inspired by medieval bestiaries, the reason for which fantasy animals and mythological creatures will take centre stage during the Carnival parade on the 18th.
There will also be writers of fables. Aesop and Lafontaine will be presenting a series of games related to the world of fables for children in the morning on Saturday the 18th. The little ones will also be able to enjoy puppet shows, theatre workshops and children’s shows in different places across the city.
Also to feature in the Madrid Carnival is the costume dance organised by the Fine Arts Circle. The theme for this year will be “Brazil”, in reference to the legendary Rio de Janeiro carnival.

Those of you who are looking for something a little bit different should head down to the electronic music and audiovisuals festival “REC” in Madrid, comprising its 7th edition of the event, and which will be presenting an alternative to the habitual carnival activities at the Telefónica Arena in Casa de Campo. Headlining in this year’s festival will be Mixmaster Morris, Matt Black, Alex Barck and Jazzanova.
So, whip out your best fancy dress and prepare yourself for five crazy days of partying!
