Cirque du Soleil in Madrid with Corteo

Cirque du Soleil, currently one of
the most anxiously-awaited events, has returned to Madrid. From the 2nd of April to
the 5th of June, Cirque du Soleil will be performing their “Corteo” show,
their most theatrical piece yet where death is combined with fun, a show and fragility.
In Corteo, which means "cortege" in
Italian, the clown pictures his own funeral taking place in a carnival
atmosphere, watched over by quietly caring angels. Juxtaposing the large with
the small, the ridiculous with the tragic and the magic of perfection with the
charm of imperfection, the show highlights the strength and fragility of the
clown, as well as his wisdom and kindness, to illustrate the portion of
humanity that is within each of us. Corteo is inspired by the death and funeral
of a clown, however the clown isn’t the kind of clown we know today, but a much
more complex character. It focuses on a mysterious space between heaven and
earth, where the gods and humans interact through circus.
The music, by turns lyrical and playful,
carries Corteo through a timeless celebration in which illusion teases
reality. Visitors can see this show in the big top located under their Grand
Chapiteau, on the Puerta del Ángel Stage. You can get there by taking the
Circular Line (6) and then by walking towards Plaza de Cristina 2. Prices range
from 28 euro for children between 2 and 12 to 199 euro. There are discounts
available for students on presentation of a student card, as well as for seniors
over 65 with ID.
So, come and discover this incredible Cirque du Soleil
show! Up until the 5th of June 2011, the company will be offering
the show renowned for its magic and high-quality performances. Unlike traditional
circus no animals are present and the acts are more focused on the artists’
costumes and on their acrobatic performances. World famous, the circus employs
more than 1000 talented artists and has already put on 26 shows. Don’t miss out
on this exciting event and enjoy these extraordinary performances taking place everyday
except on Mondays and Tuesdays, and the 31st of May. To book your
