Zarkana, the new Cirque du Soleil show, is a rock opera combining surrealism and new technologies with physical virtuosity. It will come to Madrid on the 12th of November to capture you with its magic.
The story follows Zark, a magician who has lost the love of his life, and his powers in an abandoned theatre. Sad, but determined to recover his powers, he delves into the world of magic inhabited by surprising and bizarre creatures that try to divert him from his quest.
Zarkana is the first production by Cirque du Soleil designed exclusively for large theatres. Therefore, Zarkana, opening in the Radio City Music Hall in New York, will be moving onto the Madrid, one of the very few venues in Europe with the dimensions and the capacity to host this extraordinary super production.
Just like all the other Cirque du Soleil productions, in Zarkana, the story is a fundamental part of the show, as well as the music, which is converted into the main storyline through the impressive acrobatics that more than 70 artists will be performing on stage. The beautiful staging in Zarkana is completed with spectacular audiovisual projections, light displays and special effects that will take you on a journey to an anarchic world of fantasy.
French-Canadian director and screenwriter François Girard (The Red Violin, Symphony of Psalms and Novencento, etc), is the writer and director of Zarkana. His creation was inspired by circus shows from the 30s and the freak shows typical of the time.
Given the concept and the magnitude of Zarkana, it is quite different from the other shows Cirque du Soleil has presented in Spain to date, thus if you get the chance to go to Madrid, make sure you don’t miss out. Tickets range from 23 euro to 161 euro and you can see it in Madrid up until the 31st of December, when it will be leaving to continue its journey onto Moscow.
