“Roberto Bolaño. Authors’ Week. “Entorno y Retorno” (The Return)

From the 22nd to the 27th of November Authors’ Week dedicated to the legendary Chilean author Roberto Belaño will be taking place in the Casa de America in Madrid. A week packed with talks, and activities will be finally concluded with a ceremony on Saturday the 27th of November featuring American singer Patti Smith who will be singing and reciting poems by Roberto Bolaño, which is also free.
Bolaño was exiled from his own country. He passed through Mexico then finally settled in Barcelona where he died a few years back, and although during his lifetime his work was recognised, his major commercial and critical success didn’t come until his death in 2003, which converted him into one of the one of the most recognised authors of contemporary literature in the XXI Century. Thus, over these few days they will be trying to find out the reason for his international success, evaluate his role as catalyst in the new Latin-American literature, and investigate the key aspects of his work as well as analyse why Bolaño is making his way to becoming a pop icon, especially amongst young people.

During the days of reflection and debate about “the author of the week. Roberto Bolaño. Entorno y Retorno”, scholars, translators, editors, critics, lecturers, and personal friends of Bolaño will be coming together not only to analyse these sides, but also to celebrate this figure. Thus, a documentary by Ricardo House about the youth of Bolaño in Mexico will be screened, and to conclude those attending will get the opportunity to listen to Patti Smith reciting and singing passages from the most admired Chilean writer in years.
This is an excellent opportunity for you to delve deeper into the world of Roberto Belaño with his most ardent followers and scholars, as well as enjoy the personal view of Patti Smith on his works.
