Pancake Day
London Races

Celebrate
the time honoured tradition of Shrove Tuesday or Pancake Day in London on the 16th
of February 2011 by attending or participating in one of the Pancake Day London
Races. Here you were thinking that Pancake Day in London is a civilised affair whereby the
Brits prepare this delicious dish and top it as they so choose with sugar,
chocolate, lemon, or jam etc. to celebrate the beginning of Lent. Hardly,
because didn’t you know that it is a multifunctional food and there’s some
sports to be had from this culinary yummy.
Thus, we
suggest that you head down to Dray Walk for the Great Spitalfields Pancake Race
so you can either cheer on teams of racers at these lively food events, or if
you’re up for the challenge don an apron, grab a frying pan and get involved in
a race yourself because an afternoon of fun and lots of flipping is definitely
in store. There will be costumed racers in teams of four competing for the
grand prize of an engraved frying pan all for the modest price of nothing.
The races
will be run along Fray Walk at the Old Truman Brewery on Brick Lane and there will be an old site
creperie on site as well so there’ll be plenty of pancakes for everyone and
should you lose yours in the race.
Further
races taking place in London on this special day include the one held at Tower Terrace, opposite the Tower of London and starting at 1 pm, a further food
flipping race at Victoria Tower Gardens with members of the House of Parliament
racing against members of the press (guaranteed to be a dirty race), and
finally one held near Bank and St Pauls where competitors will be battling it
out for a prize copper pancake pan.
If this sounds like your kind of thing then now you know where to go to practise your pancake flipping (and eating) skills!
