Dubbed as inventive, brave, anarchic, cheeky, funny, magical, and daring, the theatre company Kneehigh is one of the UK's most exciting touring companies who specialise in visually stunning, adventurous theatre, with beautiful music, and a touch of spontaneity. They originally started out making work for children and families, however they have since evolved to create theatre for a diverse local and national audience.

Kneehigh's "The Red Shoes"

Their latest show “The Red Shoes”, based on poetry by Anna Maria Murphy, tells the story of a girl who can't resist her red shoes. They make her dance with delight, spin with possibilities. But what happens when she can't get them off? What happens what she can't stop dancing?

Kneehigh offers a passionate, irreverent, funny and rude adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen's famous fairytale, The Red Shoes. In the story a girl is taken in by a rich old lady following her mother's death. She tricks the old lady into buying some red shoes which she wears to church. The old lady then hides away the shoes but when she falls ill the girl consequently steals them back. She begins to dance however, she finds she can not stop as the shoes have taken over and stuck to her feet.

The shoes continue to dance and an angel appears condemning her to dance forever as punishment. The girl finds her way to the butchers whom she persuades to chop of her feet. He does that and carves her a pair of wooden feet. She then goes to church but red shoes continue to haunt her......Find out how the story ends by going to see Kneehigh at the Battersea Arts Centre, London. Even better, rent an apartment in London so you can fully enjoy this comical version of Andersen's dark fairytale, The Red Shoes.
