The Tate Gallery in London will be a hosting an exhibition featuring the works of famous Catalan artist Joan Miró entitled “The Ladder of Escape”, comprising the first major retrospective of his art to be held in Britain for more than 50 years. Lucky Londoners and visitors will be able to visit this display from April the 14th to September the 11th and contemplate 150 paintings, works on paper and sculptures spanning over this great artists 60 year career.

"The Ladder of Escape”, Joan Miró exhibition

Those works on display include images of rural life in the 1920’s to many of the key works that we know and admire featuring a rich variety of styles with an abundance of luxuriant colours reflecting his personal vision and vibrant character as an artist. Miró worked in Paris and Barcelona, which is reflected in the theme of some of the work given that they track the Spanish Civil War and the first few months of the Second World War in France. In the 60s and 70s his paintings became a mark of resistance and integrity and he fast became a key figure of surrealism.

Thus, this exhibition has a political edge to it that reflects upon these particularly turbulent periods of history, reveals some of the artist’s life and shows the things he has witnessed through his lifetime.

This is a rare opportunity to see the iconic works of one of the greatest, modern and most famous surrealist painters in history. We thus recommend that you rent a London apartment so you can admire the work of this Catalan legend at your own leisure.
