IndieLisboa'11, International Independent Film Festival

From the 5th to the 15th of May the 8th edition of the Lisbon International Independent Film Festival will be celebrated. We are referring to IndieLisboa'11 comprising an event which combines works of independent cinema from all over the world and that has an array of sections to bring cinema fans and film fanatics some great cinema, some of the most important works of the year, new world cinema, films that go beyond the mainstream, and an array of activities aiming to bring the public closer to the world of cinema including the opportunity to speak to the creators of their favourite films and participate in debates focusing on the world of cinema.

IndieLisboa'11 is what they describe as a great opportunity to meet the most recent and interesting works of independent cinema from all over the world and the main aim of the festival is to discover new films and directors, in the universe of independent cinema focusing on the author's creativity and independence. The 8th edition of this event comprising one of the most important Portuguese Film Festivals is fast approaching and although film submissions have now ended if you're a bit of a film fanatic or cinema buff and you're lucky enough to be in Lisbon this spring then make sure you head down there to see what's on offer.

There will be additional activities and events running alongside the main festival sections including screenings of films from previous editions of the festival under the Extensions category, the further screening of some brand new Portuguese productions, talks with the aim of bringing filmmaking world operates closer to students of cinema and debates, as well as seminars and master classes, a Video Library comprising more than 3000 submitted films for the present edition, and finally Indie by Night which is an opportunity for the public to meet the authors of their favourite films.


This prestigious festival is divided into the following sections:
International competition: International competition for Short and Feature Films that have never been publicly screened in Portugal, including second works, fiction, animation, documentaries, or experimental films.

National competition: Aimed at giving national and international recognition to Portuguese shorts and features finished in the festival year or the previous.

Observatory: Screening of some of the most important works of the year, in particular those by established authors.

Emerging cinema: Exploration of new trends in world cinema, fresh narrative forms and promising voices, highlighting innovative works by emerging filmmakers.

World Pulse: Focusing on our world, presenting films dealing with global or local issues that define the current state of things.

Independent hero: Dedicated to those who go beyond the mainstream in filmmaking and to open new and unconventional paths in cinema.

Indiejunior: For children between three and fifteen years old.

Director's cut: Featuring recently restored titles, rediscoveries and films which reflect on the cinema itself, its artistic dimension and its history.

Indiemusic: Featuring films, mainly documentaries focusing on music, namely the pop/rock independent scene and its protagonists.
