A giant crochet wasp in the Queen’s chambers? Kalediscopic flowers made out of irons growing on the patio? A chandelier made from tampons in the palace rooms? Well yes. All this and much more can be seen at Joana Vasconcelos exhibition in the Palacio da Ajuda in Lisbon.

Lisbon is well and truly keeping its visitors entertained this season what with the stunning Christmas decorations and lights, exciting festive events and the Winter Festival soon to be taking place. We say this because after Christmas and in addition to the other events on the agenda, the Russian State Ballet will be performing the classic ballet Swan Lake in Lisbon’s Coliseu dos Recreios on the 1st of January, and his masterpiece the Nutcracker on the 2nd.

The charming city of Lisbon is just a melting pot of culture, and the Christmas events on offer this festive season are particularly elaborate with all the beautiful lights and decorations, as well as their Christmas tree of record breaking height, not to mention the festive and fabulous Gifts and Craft trade show, and finally their New Year’s Eve celebrations which promise to be spectacular with the firework displays, concerts and performances, amongst many other events organised for seeing in the New Year. And, that’s not all as the Portuguese capital will be continuing to entertain the locals and visitors alike with its Winter Festival of art and culture that the city will be hosting from the 6th to the 31st of January 2011.

This November, from the 25th to the 28th they will be celebrating the unique contemporary art fair in Portugal, or Arte Lisboa 2010. This event will gather together national and international artists and exhibitors to promote the exchange and advancement of art in Portugal

The nights of Thursday are now different at the Museum of the East (MUSEU DO ORIENTE). A guided tour of the permanent exhibitions followed by a dinner at the restaurant is what we suggest for a different evening. A guided tour to be held with a minimum of four participants provides two hours starting at 19.30 and 20.30 respectively
