Buenos Aires: Scene of the new coproduction between Spain, Agentina and the United States
The streets of the San Telmo neighborhood are recreating the Spanish Civil War for the filming of “There Be Dragons”, a new feature film by director Roland Joffé, who has also filmed his famous film, “The Mission”.
Roland Joffé’s movie about the founding of Opus Dei has been filming for the past four weeks.
On Sunday, besides the normal movement of tourists in the neighborhood of San Telmo, a couple of blocks of the area were closed to the public. There, the appearance of the neighborhood had been altered for the filming of the movie, There Be Dragons, that takes place during the Spanish Civil War and is about Jose Maria Escrivá de Balaguer, the founder of Opus Dei, the controversial Catholic Church institution.
Roland Joffé (who already filmed in the Iguazú waterfalls area many years ago for his family film, The Mission, with Robert De Niro and Jeremy Irons) and a good part of the multinational cast were there, including the main character, the Englishman Charlie Cox (Casanova, The Merchant of Venice). The cast also includes Spain’s Belén Rueda (The orphanage, The Sea Inside), the American Wes Bentley (American Beauty), and the Scottish Dougray Scott (Mission: Impossible II).
There Be Dragons has already been filming for 4 of the 13 planned weeks of the shoot.
Se trata de una coproducción entre España, Argentina y los Estados Unidos.
Local production help has been provided by Historias Cinematográficas, of Luis Puenzo, Oscar winner for “The Official Story”.
Friendly Rentals has already housed on of the Spanish production company –in charge of the pre-production- for their month-long stay in our city!
