The best gardens and parks in Berlin
Now that
the warm weather has arrived everyone is planning holidays in the main European
and world capitals. One of the most attractive destinations is Berlin for diverse
reasons including its nightlife, museums, cultural life, etc. A good part of
the German idiosyncrasy is enjoying the sun (when there is sun) in many of the
parks with which it is blessed, which is quite the case for Berlin. Germans like getting together with
their friends and having a BBQ in their free time. Therefore, if you’re going
to the city here is a small guide of the best parks in Berlin.

TIERGARTEN.
One of the green lungs of Berlin
located in the heart of the city centre next to the Brandenberg Gate, and
surrounding the legendary Victory Column. It is an immense area located in the
heart of Berlin
with 210 hectares
of lush vegetation. The world embassies and various monuments are also situated

TREPTOWER PARK. Located on the bank of the river
Spree, this is an enormous (with 85 hectares) and very green park where some
Russian monuments have been erected in honour of next to 80,000 Russian
soldiers who lost their lives during the Civil War, such as a 12 metre high soldier
stepping on a swastika. A pleasant walk through this impressive park, situated
next to the Arena and the famous floating Badeschiff swimming pool, is

VOLKSPARK
FRIEDRICHSCHAIN. This Friedrichschain public park was the first of its kind in Berlin. It is an enormous
park located in the Friedrichschain district that has various public spaces and
a small amphitheatre for open air cinema and diverse shows, as well as a sports
area and monuments such as the most beautiful fountains in the city dating back
from the beginning of last century. A lively area with bars and restaurants
also surrounds the park. Where: Landsberger AlleePublic transport: Tram 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,15, 20. Buses:
100, 142, 200, 257, 340. Subway: U5 until Strausberger Platz y S4, S8, S85 to
Landsberger Allee.

GÖRLITZER PARK. Görli Park,
as it is more commonly known by the locals, is one of the most well-known and
beloved in the city. It is located in the heart of the Kreuzberg district where
the Görlitzer Park train station is also situated, but
which was subsequently transformed in 1900 into the park that we know today. It
has a garden and in summer it fills up with Turkish young people and families
that pass by to spend the day around the BBQ. Where: Glogauer Strasse 34. Public
Transport: U1 Görlitzer Bahnhof.

MAUERPARK. Walk
park, located in the bohemian district of Prenzlauer Berg, is one of the most
famous in Berlin for, amongst other things, a piece of the Berlin wall, a
reflection of the city’s past. Young people fill the park in summer to have a
barbeque and some drinks, and on Sunday all kinds of people make their way to
the park to go to the fleamarket and the famous Bearpit karaoke bar that makes
those Sunday afternoons even more amusing with this very fun and relaxed event. Where: Eberswalder strasse. Public transport: U8 hasta Bernauer Strasse, Tram M10 to
Wolliner Strasse and U2 to Eberswalder Strasse.
