Enjoy the Classic Open Air Festival in Berlin this June
Summer is fast
approaching and the agenda of many European cities is starting to prepare for
what is about to come. Berlin
is one of those cities that can boast of an endless number of cultural
activities making the most of the warm weather that reigns over the summer
months. One of these events comprises the Classic Open Air Festival that will
be taking place from the 7th to the 12th of July this year in what is
considered the prettiest square in Berlin,
Gendarmenmarkt Square.
Every summer since 1992, the Gendarmenmarkt located in the heart of Berlin, transforms into
a great concert arena. The success of the concert series is partly down to the
picturesque mise-en-scène of classical architecture and the consequently unique
atmosphere, which arises in combination with the classical music. Thousands of
visitors make their way to the German capital every year in search of the
musical excellence that the Berlin Classic Open Air line-up is famous for. The
musical palette ranges from German and Italian opera, operetta and musical to
crossover productions with pop, soul, swing and jazz classics. However, other
factors contributing to its success include the concert themes. Especially
popular are the productions where light, laser or fireworks have been built
into the dramaturgy. Truly a spectacular show.
Internationally famous artists such as José Carreras, Montserrat
Caballé, Lucia Aliberti, Ramon Vargas, Marcelo Alvarez and many other groups
with varying musical styles including Buena VistaSocial Club, Al Jarreau and The Supremes, etc. have performed in previous editions of the Classic Open Air
Festival.
