What's on this weekend in Barcelona

Friday again! And what a weekend we have coming up. As well as the gripping Barcelona v. Real Madrid classic, during the coming days Barcelona is going to be brimming with activities, concerts, theatre and many other types of show. As if all this weren’t enough, the city is also getting ready to be filled with roses and books for the “Fiesta de Sant Jordi” (St. George’s day celebration), which happens on Monday. Here are our suggestions for the weekend.

Friday, 20th April

espiritu-montjuicAMARAL + CYAN- The popular duo from Zaragoza, made up of Juan Aguirre and Eva Amaral, is back to charm the public with their tunes. The concert is part of the Spring Festival in Hospitalet, which offers days of live music for all audiences. When: 9pm. Where: La Farge (C/ Barcelona, 2, L’Hospitalet de Llobregat). How much: 23 €.

ESPÍRITU DE MONTJUÏC – Three days of nostalgia for the race atmosphere that once breathed through the streets of the “Magic Mountain” of Barcelona. Expect motorbike and classic car races, retro concerts, a vintage flea market, kid’s shows and old-fashioned planes circling through the sky. Get your ‘grooviest’ kit on, put your foot down on the pedal and enjoy the party. When: from the 20th to 22nd of April. Where: Circuit de Catalunya (Montmeló). How much: day ticket 10-25 €, three-day weekend ticket 60 €.

Saturday, 21st April
FIRA PER LA TERRA (“Earth Fair”) – Handicrafts, flea markets, kid’s shows, concerts, workshops and conferences: these are a few of the activities featured in the fair dedicated to the Earth, which aims to raise consciousness about the ways in which today’s society damages nature and human beings. When: Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd April. Where: Parc de la Ciutadella and Passeig Lluís Companys. How much: free.

RECORD STORE DAY – A day dedicated to music, which pays homage to independent record shops. This event, ever-popular in the English-speaking world, has arrived for the first time in Barcelona with discount prices, concerts held in shops and other activities. When: 21st April, varying times of day. Where: B-Core, Revolver Records, Luchador Records, Discos Paradiso, Disco 100, Surco, Wah Wah Records, Discos Juandó. How much: free.

barça-madridBARCELONA v. REAL MADRID - The classic of the Spanish premier league is set to be as exciting as ever, with Barcelona fighting to make up those extra four points needed to catch up with Madrid in the league tables. Entrance tickets have already sold out, but those who aren’t lucky enough to be on the pitch-side can catch it on television via the channels Gol T, Gol Stadium y C+ Liga. When: 8pm. Where: Camp Nou stadium.

Sunday, 22nd April

LOS JUGADORES(“The Players”) – A maths teacher, an actor, a barber and a gravedigger get together in a basement to play a dangerous card game. When you fail and fail and fail again, the only option left is to start taking risks. Or at least, this is Pau Miró’s premise in this piece of theatre. When: from the 19th April to the 20th May. Where: Teatre Lliure (C/ Montseny, 47). How much: standard ticket 25 €, Wednesdays 16 €, concessions 20 €. Language: Catalan.

UN AUTOBÚS DE LEYENDAS (“A Bus of Legends”) – Inspired by the St. George’s day celebrations taking place on Monday, this bus will go on a special journey through the Gothic Quarter of Barcelona, teaching its passengers the secrets of the mediaeval myths and legends of the city. The activity includes free entrance to the exhibition “Catalunya 1,400” in the MNAC art museum. When: Saturday 21st April at 11.30am and 4pm, Sunday 22nd April at 11.30am. Where: Plaza de Ramón Berenguer el Gran. How much: free. It’s essential to reserve your place by calling tel. +33936220375 or via grups@mnac.cat.
