Things to do in Barcelona this weekend

The weekend’s in sight! And it looks as though whoever said “Ne'er cast a clout till May be out” (or, in plain English, “don’t take your winter clothes off until June”) was right. But rain or shine, the city doesn’t stop and there’s a whole host of things waiting for us this weekend in Barcelona. Here’s a few of them…

Friday, 18th of May

OFFF Barcelona 2012CINEMA AND HUMAN RIGHTS – The “Festival de Cinema i Drets Humans de Barcelona” will be exhibiting a total of 107 pieces from all over the world. Fiction, animation and documentaries to raise consciousness. Where: various places in Barcelona. When: from the 17th to 22nd of May. How much: some projections are free and others cost € 4.

OFFF – After success in cities like New York, Lisbon and Paris, the OFFF festival of post-digital culture is back to its town of birth. What can we expect in OFFF? Conferences, workshops, installations, performances and exhibitions of contemporary artists of different disciplines. Where: Disseny HUB (Pl. Glòries, 37). When: from the 17th to the 19th of May. How much: € 99 for a three-day ticket.

Bruce Springsteen 2012BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN – The lucky ones who’ve managed to get entrance tickets for this second concert in the 2012 tour of the Boss in Barcelona will enjoy, as always, good music and a first-class show. Where: Olympic Stadium. When: 21pm. How much: € 65.

Saturday, 19th of May

SCREEN FROM BARCELONA – Old festival “Loop” has changed name and is putting all its money on converting Barcelona into the world capital of video art. More than 1,000 works, 539 artists, 137 spaces, 46 galleries and 15 days. Bars, libraries, parks, museums and other unusual places will be projecting daring and unconventional pieces during these days. Where: different parts of Barcelona. When: from the 17th of May to the 2nd of June.

FIESTA DE NOU BARRIS – It’s the Nou Barris neighbourhood’s village fête! Concerts, flamenco, competitions, breakdance, races… a host of activities will be filling its streets this weekend. We especially recommend that modernist market, which will be orientated in the 19th century and will provide typical, handmade products. Where: Nou Barris. When: from the 15th to the 20th of May. How much: free. You can consult schedules in PDF here.

NIT DELS MUSEUS – Tonight, go out and get museumed. More than 50 cultural centres in Barcelona will be opening their doors for free so we can enjoy all their regular collections and exhibitions by night. There’ll also be dance performances, workshops, concerts and video installations. Where: various museums in Barcelona. When: from 7pm to 1am. How much: free.

Sunday, 20th of May

Tamborinada BarcelonaTAMBORINADA – Theatre Workshops, games, concerts, puppets, magic, kid’s activities, traditional dances and parades, a climbing wall, stories and activities for all the family will be the main ingredients of this event’s 35th birthday. This year, furthermore, the Tamborinada will be collaborating to raise funds with the Marathon for Poverty. Where: Parc de la Ciutadella. When: from 11am to 7pm. How much: free.

FESTA PALLASSO – Smiles for all the family in a show-stopping place. A day to get involved in the world of clowns, with a load of activities. Who wouldn’t want to feel like a kid again? Where: La Pedrera (C/ Provença, 261). When: from 11am to 7pm. How much: € 8.
