Things to do this weekend in Barcelona. Halloween and Castañada special


Whether you call it Halloween, All Saints’ Day, Magosto or Day of the Dead, it is still a very special weekend. Some people will have a bank holiday weekend off whilst others will be able to enjoy an entire week off.

Over the last few weeks we have been telling you where you can go to celebrate Halloween in Barcelona, Madrid, New York and London. However, the truth is that in Barcelona, they celebration something much more typical and traditional, the Castañada. Family and friends get together in the evening to spend some time with each other. They eat chestnuts, sweet potato and panellets (typical sweets made from almonds, egg, sugar and nuts) accompanied by a good glass of muscatel wine.

However, for those of you that don’t want to celebrate the Castañada or Halloween in Barcelona, here are a few other things you can do this weekend.


Friday the 28th of October

COMEDY ZOO – Prepare for a good laugh. Joaquín Reyes, currently one of the best comedians will make you laugh until you can‘t take any more with his funny dialogues. Where: Club Capitol (Rambla de Canaletes,138). When: From Friday the 28th to Sunday the 30th of October at 11pm. Price: 22 euro.

THE LADDER OF ESCAPE – “Joan Miro. The Ladder of Escape” is the biggest exhibition on Joan Miro organised in Spain over the last decade. Borrowed from the London Tate Gallery, this exhibition shows the more political and committed side of the painter. Where: Fundació Miró (Montjuïc). When: Up until the 3rd of March 2012. Price: 10 euro.


Saturday the 29th of October

PSM FESTIVAL – A concert held in tribute to Pedro San Martin, bass player of La Buena Vida. Los Planetas, Clovis, Sr. Chinarro, Nosoträsh, amongst others, will be there to entertain the audience with good music. Where: Apolo Club (Calle Nou de la Rambla, 113).  When: 8:30pm. Price: 1 euro.

BRICK LANE BCN - A street market where all the best vintage shops in Barcelona have got together:Lab Couture, Layelfish, Vintage Me and Les Pumps. Bags, clothes, shoes, jewellery and all kinds of accessories, accompanied by DJs and drinks. Where: Calle Corretger, 5. When: From 2am to 8pm. Price: 1 euro.


Sunday the 30th of October

ROUTE OF THE ALTARS - Mexican culture with their altars and offerings for a different point of view on things. During the route you will see altars dedicated to different themes and famous people such as Steve Jobs. Where: Various places and venues across Barcelona. When: Up until Sunday the 20th of November. Price: Free.

ADVERTISING IN CATALONIA - “Advertising in Catalonia, 1857-1957. Roldós and the Pioneers” is an exhibition that takes a look at the history of advertising with more than 100 years of adverts and slogans demonstrating that this discipline has become an art. Where: Palau Robert (Pg. Gràcia, 107). When: Up until the 31st of December 2012. Price: Free.
