Storytelling
evenings in Barcelona

Once upon a
time….there was a small bookshop in Barcelona
where about thirty people gathered every Wednesday to tell and listen to
stories, and let their imagination run wild.
If you
would like to take a break from your weekly routine and find something different
to do in the evening in Barcelona,
then it might interest you to know that we are referring to the storytelling
evenings in the Casa de los Cuentos (the House of Storytales). This cosy bookstore
is run by Numancia Rojas, a Chilean and professional narrator that settled in Barcelona, who believes
that “stories can change our world”.
Practically
everything is improvised during these night time gatherings. The theme is
randomly chosen from suggestions by the public, normally people who attend for
the first time. The stories then begin in line and are linked to the chosen
theme.
Everyone who attends can take part by telling a story that they know or
by making one up.
Over the
four years that the event has been held, “storytellers” from all over the world
have participated: Switzerland, Uruguay, Holland, Argentina, Cuba, Colombia, Mexico,
Brazil, Peru, Venezuela, Ireland and France, etc. Many people that have visited
the shop are passing through Barcelona,
so some of the stories are told in English, others in Spanish and Catalan, or
whatever language the narrator speaks.
In the Casa
de los Cuentos, there are also workshops on offer where you can learn how to
tell stories and do puppet shows. They even organise snacks and birthday
parties in a room with a garden at the back of the shop.

This Friday
the 9th of September, you will be able to enjoy a special session. At
9pm, Numancia Rojas will be presenting “Pleasures of Aphrodite”, a series of
tales dedicated to the Goddess of love and eroticism that will be accompanied
by cava, an aphrodisiac aperitif and chocolate. The price to get in is 9 euro
and there are a limited number of places.
Let
yourself be carried away by the magical world of storytales!
