Although this is not very typical of Barcelona at all, lately you could say that Gospel is making a comeback amongst young singers and musicians in Catalonia. Clubs are now, or more precisely, one of the best jazz clubs in Europe is offering a programme that is enough to interest any lover of gospel, as well as those that would like to see an event such as this. Jamboree Gospel Singers will be performing in the Jamboree Jazz Club up until the 31st of October in Barcelona.

Originating in the XVIII Century in Afro-American churches, black evangelist music represented another form of Christianity in communities that had roots differing from those in western countries at the time. This, that was fundamentally choir music led to trance, a so-called ritual that became popular in the XX Century, this uniting many other genres whilst maintaining various branches of pure gospel that up to today have been preserved.
In relation to the music, Jamboree has more of a choir and instrumental style, and is directed by Ramón Escalé, a well-known composer and musician originating from Manresa. Performances will be taking place over seven Sundays, including the last day of October, and kick of at 19.00. You can get your tickets here.
