Easter is a great time to discover what the major cities have to offer and with Spring just around the corner, why not discover the streets of Barcelona, the Mediterranean capital. Enjoy the moments of freedom taking in the perfect weather that the city offers at this time of year. Here are our suggestions for your break this Easter in Barcelona.

1. A walk through Gaudi’s Parc Guell

The Parc Guell is one of the most fascinating parks that Barcelona has to offer all year round. In the hilly part of Barcelona known as el Carmel, the park offers a perfect combination of woods, and greenery together with the stunning Gaudi architecture who commissioned this emblematic symbol of Catalan modernism of the 20th Century. With the arrival of Spring and the longer days, why not let all your troubles disappear as you wonder around the park amidst palm trees followed by a rest on the mosaic benches and get lost in the Room of a Hundred Columns, or even visit the museum.

2. The Easter “Mona”

The Mona, or Easter cake is one of the most well know culinary traditions in Catalonia. The original Easter cakes of the 15th Century were simple doughnut like sponge cakes that were not at all as chocolaty as the ones that the bakeries offer nowadays with all the children’s favourite characters! The idea of these first Easter cakes was to tightly bond the Catholic family while the child was preparing for the Communion and the eggs were pre-Christian symbol of creation. During the week preceding Easter and during the Holy Week, bakeries all over Barcelona are full of the most original creations, or there is still the option of making it yourself!

3. Easter Parades in Barcelona.

The Holy Parades are a true representation of Easter in Barcelona and we recommend the following, both on good Friday: Leaving from Iglesia de Sant Jaume at 7pm and from the Iglesia de Sant Agustí in the Raval area. If we have persuaded you enough to come to Barcelona, our last recommendation is for you to live the city like the locals and stay in one of our apartments in Barcelona. And if you’ve already had the pleasure of visiting Barcelona, we can seduce you with many other top destinations to ensure that you don’t stay at home this Easter!
