Summer evenings at Monjuic with the entire city before you

Montjuïc Hill is one of Barcelona’s icons and at the same time a relaxing place where you can wander through the extensive gardens there whilst enjoying spectacular views of the city and the sea. Every summer, in the evenings, it is transformed into the perfect place for taking a break from routine and enjoying a wide variety of out door activities.

Sala Montjuic Open Air Film Festival – This classic open air film festival will be celebrating its 9th edition this year. From the 4th of July you will be able to enjoy watching films in a very privileged location on a giant screen set up on the grounds of Montjuic Castle. All the films, screened in their original version, will follow a small music concert, as well as a short film to get the evening going. Are you ready to relax on the grassy verges at Monjuic under the stars and enjoy a picnic before the films start? Lights, camera, action!

When: From the 4th of July to the 5th of August, every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8.30pm. Where: On the grounds of Montjuïc Castle. Price: 5 euro, and 3 euro to hire a deck chair.

Mecal Air – The sculptural gardens of Poble Espanyol (Spanish Town) are converted into an exclusive chill out space with comfortable hammocks over the summer months. Mecal will be offering a series of short film screenings this year accompanied by drinks, a barbeque and good company. All the selected music and audiovisuals have the following common themes: Star Wars, sex, horror, comedy and romance. An interesting combination and means of discovering this special area within the city.

When: From the 3rd of June to the 17th of September every Friday and Saturday at 8pm. Where: Poble Espanyol (Spanish Town). Price: 2.50 euro with a flyer and 5 euro without.

Sardines and the Rumba in the Caseta del Migdia (House of the Midday Sun) – On Wednesday evening you will be able to dance to the beat of the Rumba whilst trying out sardines sat below cool pine trees. This is the proposal by Mortiz and the Caseta del Migdia to beat the economic crisis this year; enjoy the simple things in life accompanied by live music.

The menu comprises a salad, grilled sardines and melon all washed down with a bottle of wine or Moritz beer. Remember that if you fancy going you need to book in advance.

When: From the 21st of June to the 28th of September every Wednesday at 9pm. Where: the Caseta del Migdia and the surrounding gardens. Price: 19 euro.

And if that wasn’t enough, this Saturday the 2nd of July you have another reason for paying a visit to the “magic mountain”, as Montjuïc by Night will be taking place. All throughout the night, there will be free musical performances, dance, theatre, cinema and exhibitions held in different places at Montjuïc. In addition, you will be able to use the swimming pools and access the museums and gardens there. Make sure you don’t miss out!
