Centrally located and newly renovated where Barcelona's port meet the Old Town of Barcelona

This comfortable and sizable apartment has all you need to explore the old city of Barcelona. Located just off Paseo de Colon, this apartment will be your focal point from which you can map out where to go and what you want to see in Barcelona.

The area surrounding the apartment:

The Merced II apartment is situated on the edge of the Barrio Gótico (Gothic Quarter) which really is the true heart of Barcelona. It is located across the road from the port just behind Paseo de Colon amidst a concentration of medieval Gothic buildings only a few blocks from Las Ramblas. This location really makes this apartment a great choice for your visit. The Gothic area is a maze of interconnecting dark, cobbled stone streets, and there are plenty of cafés and bars. Just a few blocks from the apartment you find the amazing gothic church of Santa Maria del Mar, from where one can continue on to the Picasso Museum and the Cathedral.

The area around Port Vell is a great place to stroll around. Take a walk down Joan de Borbon, a main street with lots of great restaurants where you will rub shoulders with the locals as you order your great paella and seafood dishes!

The apartment:

The apartment is a fantastic place for you to stay in while visiting Barcelona. Apart from the location, which has you within easy walking distance of all the places of interest, the apartment itself is an ideal base from which to plan your daily activities, be they cultural, shopping or planning which wonderful restaurants to visit.

The apartment has three bedrooms and can sleep up to six people. Two of the bedrooms have comfortable queen size beds and ensuite bathrooms (in the second bedroom, the beds can be made up either as a queen or as two singles). One bathroom has a bath/shower unit, WC and sink unit while the other ensuite bathroom has only a shower unit, sink and WC. The third bedroom has a smaller, single bed to sleep the fifth guest. There is also a fold out bed in the larger bedroom for a sixth guest.

The living/dining room is very pleasant and the owner has created a relaxing and inviting atmosphere where the guest can sit back and relax and enjoy some chill out time after a hard day of sightseeing or shopping! The living room comes with TV, DVD and stereo for the use of the guest. This area also houses the large dining table with room for up to six people. The room itself is adorned with unusual pieces of modern art, giving a feeling of uniqueness and originality.

The kitchen is fully equipped with cooker, fridge, microwave, pots, kettle, juicer and dishwasher to ensure your stay at the Merced II apartment is a hassle free one. The bathrooms are fresh, clean and spacious and come with towels. The whole apartment is fitted with air conditioning (hot/cold) and all bedlinen are provided.

Barrio Gotico

Barrio Gotico

The Barrio Gotico or Gothic Quarter is the heart of old town Barcelona and one of the best preserved medieval quarters in Europe, with various Roman remains to be found. The area itself is a body of pedestrian, interconnecting, narrow cobble stoned streets where you can wander around aimlessly for hours, taking in all the wonderful bars and cafes, restaurants and shops… as well as Barcelona’s very famous “La Catedral” (gothic cathedral) which is magnificent and a must see for all visitors. There is another very distinguished - but less visited Gothic church in this area also, the Santa Maria del Pi. The quiet and attractive Plaça del Pi in front of the church is filled with bars and restaurants with outside seating where a cup of coffee goes down well while watching the quirky street performers which congregate to entertain the visitors most days.

The Municipal government (Ajuntament) and Catalan regional government (Generalitat) are in this area standing opposite each other. Within walking distance from the Gothic Quarter are the famous Las Ramblas, the Liceu opera house, Barcelona City Hall in Placa Jaume, as well as the remains of the old Roman Walls coupled with many more treats from Barcelona's ancient and medieval past.

Plaça Reial is a well known spot, popular for it’s bars and restaurants and visitors can enjoy outdoor meals in one of the many eateries to be found, (beware of pickpockets!!)… Here we find the only work a young Gaudí designed for the city council, the Tres Gràcies fountain in the centre and lamp-posts around the plaza…

Although the Gotico is not as incredibly “cool” as the Born or as bohemian as the Raval, it is nonetheless an essential port of call.
