A centrally located apartment in heart of bustling Las Ramblas in Barcelona.
This well planned apartment has the advantage of being right in the center of Barcelona´s most famous landmark, Las Ramblas. Comfortably accommodating 6 persons, the apartment is a jewel in the heart of Barcelona where there is always hustle and bustle.
The area surrounding the apartment:
The renoir apartment is located on undoubtedly the most cosmopolitan street of Barcelona, with the greatest diversity of people, passers-by, shoppers, tourists, civil servants, big shots, comedians, street musicians and night-birds. Just off La Rambla and next door to the apartment, you'll find one of Europe's oldest (indoor) markets: 'El mercat de la Boqueria'. In this typically Spanish setting, you'll find locals as well as tourists looking for queso (cheese), serrano (ham) or aceitunas (olives) and the further in you get the more you feel the old Roman marketplace which used to exist back in the day. Venture further in and you´ll be amazed at the wonderfully varied fish market with colourful jovial women serving behind the counter. The metro stop Liceu is within throwing distance from the apartment as well as one of the leading opera lyric houses in Europe the famous Gran Teatre del Liceu.
The apartment:
The apartment is located on the second floor with elevator of a newly renovated apartment building which has conserved the historic facade of the area. The long entrance hall of the apartment guides the guest through this well planned accommodation and terminates at a wonderfully comfortable living room. The living room area of the apartment encompasses the comfortable dining area.
The master bedroom has two single beds which is configured into a double bed. Next to it is the box bedroom with single bunk beds ideal for children or friends staying at the apartment. The kitchen is fully equipped with clean new vitroceramic counter tops and all the usual amenities like oven, fridge, microwave, coffee machine, etc. The bathroom is roomy with a newly installed shower unit and fittings with hairdryer provided. Barrio Gotico
The Barrio Gotico or Gothic Quarter is the heart of old town Barcelona and one of the best preserved medieval quarters in Europe, with various Roman remains to be found. The area itself is a body of pedestrian, interconnecting, narrow cobble stoned streets where you can wander around aimlessly for hours, taking in all the wonderful bars and cafes, restaurants and shops… as well as Barcelona’s very famous “La Catedral” (gothic cathedral) which is magnificent and a must see for all visitors. There is another very distinguished - but less visited Gothic church in this area also, the Santa Maria del Pi. The quiet and attractive Plaça del Pi in front of the church is filled with bars and restaurants with outside seating where a cup of coffee goes down well while watching the quirky street performers which congregate to entertain the visitors most days.
The Municipal government (Ajuntament) and Catalan regional government (Generalitat) are in this area standing opposite each other. Within walking distance from the Gothic Quarter are the famous Las Ramblas, the Liceu opera house, Barcelona City Hall in Placa Jaume, as well as the remains of the old Roman Walls coupled with many more treats from Barcelona's ancient and medieval past.
Plaça Reial is a well known spot, popular for it’s bars and restaurants and visitors can enjoy outdoor meals in one of the many eateries to be found, (beware of pickpockets!!)… Here we find the only work a young Gaudí designed for the city council, the Tres Gràcies fountain in the centre and lamp-posts around the plaza…
Although the Gotico is not as incredibly “cool” as the Born or as bohemian as the Raval, it is nonetheless an essential port of call.
