It is situated at 40 steps from one of the most famous examples of Gothic architecture in Barcelona: the Santa Maria del Mar church, which overshadows the neighbourhood. Tastefully decorated, comfortable with balcony views of the busy walkways below this apartment will make you visit special.

The Manel apartment is situated literally steps away from one of Barcelona's most distingushed Gothic churches, the Santa Maria del Mar, in the center of El Borne or Born. The Born district is an intricate maze of narrow, medieval streets where you will find lots of trendy boutiques and great bars, cafés and restaurants. Another option for the visitor staying at this great Barcelona apartment is to visit the Gothic quarter situated right in the heart of the old town and about a ten minutes' walk from the apartment. This is the area that fell within the medieval walls and, until 150 years ago, made up the entire city of Barcelona. The area is a body of interconnecting narrow, cobble stoned streets where you can potter around for hours and explore the shops and restaurants.
The apartment:
The Manel apartment has been decorated to retain the original architectural details combining modern appliances with elegant antiques in a building that dates back many centuries. The original mouldings, exposed wooden beams, but especially the typical shuttered windows give guests the true Barcelona feeling. This first floor apartment is perfect for accommodating a family or group of friends, with two bedrooms and a pullout sofabed.
The Manel apartment is situated on the corner of the building and as such it is surrounded by large wooden shuttered windows. The living room and dining room is accommodated in one large room with a pullout sofabed. The master bedroom has a large double bed with plenty of closet space while the second bedroom houses bunk beds. The beautiful kitchen is fully equipped with cooker, oven, fridge, pots and pans, toaster and all the comforts of home. The spacious bathroom is clean and comfortable with shower, bath and a sink unit which have been newly installed. Please note that the actual toilet is separate to the bathroom. The whole apartment has been tastefully decorated with some rustic and antique furniture pieces.

Born
El Born is one of the trendiest neighbourhoods in Barcelona and has become even more so over the last few years, combining a perfect balance between historical treasures, culture and “coolness”; an area very much sought after by the locals as well as the visitors. This area also boasts some of the highest property prices in the city …. This wonderful neighbourhood is full of many great bars, cafes, restaurants and is especially great for one of a kind boutiques as well as other, very well known clothing brands, such as Custo. The Born area is in such a great location, close to the Old Port and the beach, it’s surrounded by all the other cool and interesting places in Barcelona such as Barrio Gotico, Barceloneta, Old Port and Via Laietana. The Park Ciutadella is also a quick 5 minute walk from this area, perfect for a long stroll after a lovely lunch in one of the many terraces the Born has to offer.
A main feature of this great area is the wonderful basilica Santa Maria del Mar, right in front of this magnificent landmark, Barcelona’s guests can enjoy tapas and wine and watch the world go by…Other spots not to miss include Paseo del Born which is full of great bars and makes this area a lively night spot; not far from here is the Picasso museum….. The Born also has it’s own market, Santa Catarina with it’s funky, bright coloured roof. And finally not to be forgotten is the fantastic Palau de la Musica, which is possibly the most dazzling work of modernist architecture present in Barcelona….

Location was fantastic. Apartment had a large bedroom and high ceilings which gave good airy feel. Master bed was very comfortable. Ideal for family with children. Perhaps others might have found privacy wanting if it were say too couples sharing.

Location of the apartment was excellent - centrally placed for touring of the historic areas and close enough to the subway to easily get to the outlying areas we wanted to visit. There were literally hundreds of very good restaurants withing walking distance. We will stay here next time we are in Barcelona!

This beautiful apartment is right in the middle of the older section of Barcelona and so within walking distance of almost everything that we wanted to see and also only a 5 minute walk to the metro for when we wanted to go to outlying areas . The apartment itself was even better than expected - in an old building but beautifully restored and with all the modern amenities . Friendly Rentals was a pleasure to work with even when our arrival was delayed 4 days by the volcanic ash cloud . We will definitely use them again and stay at the Manel apartment whenever we return to Barcelona.

The location is fantastic, especially for those interested in participating in El Born's party scene. The apartment is quite large and well appointed. We loved everything about it. Given location, size of apartment, amenities, etc, it was a great value.
