The Matisse I apartment is located right in the middle of Barcelona city, making it accessible to all areas of interest in Barcelona such as the Gothic Quarter, Las Ramblas, El Borne and Plaça Catalunya. A short walk from the apartment you will find the superb food and produce market called La Boqueria on Las Ramblas, an absolute must for any visitor to Barcelona. The apartment offers a quiet reprive from the bustling and very busy Las Ramblas but it is a mere two to three minutes' walk to where the action is.

Walk out the front door of the apartment building and across the street and you will find yourself in the heart of the very trendy El Borne area, one of Barcelona's oldest neighbourhoods. It is an intricate maze of plaças and squares all interconnected by narrow, medieval streets. Here you will find lots of trendy boutiques and great bars, cafés and restaurants. Another option for the visitor staying at this fantastic Barcelona apartment is to visit the Gothic Quarter situated right in the heart of the old town. This is the area that fell within the medieval walls and that up until 150 years ago made up the entire city of Barcelona. The area is a body of interconnecting narrow cobble stoned streets where you can potter around for hours exploring the shops and restaurants.

The apartment:

The Matisse I apartment has been completely renovated and modernized to achieve the quality and high standard necessary to make this a luxury apartment for our visitor to Barcelona. You can see this from the moment you step into the tastefully, classically styled foyer, as well as the perfectly preserved facade of the building. Even the elevator has been refurbished to retain its turn of the century origin (thankfully with up to the minute machinery). This penthouse apartment is perfect for four to seven people and caters to their every need. The master bedroom has a queen size bed and an ensuite bathroom which has a large bath, while the second bedroom contains two single beds and the third bedroom has a single bed. The decor of each bedroom has been kept tasteful and uncomplicated and there is plenty of wardrobe space so that all visitors will have room for their belongings.

The living room of the apartment is good for relaxing and resting after a long day out and about sightseeing, or after a day at the beach. The sofa converts into a sofa bed for the other guests. The lovely caramel coloured hardwood floor throughout the apartment gives the apartment just the right amount of warmth.

The ensuite bathroom to the master bedroom contains the bath, shower, sink and toilet, while a completely seperate second bathroom has a wonderfully spacious walk in shower as well as sink unit. The kitchen is fully equipped with state of the art appliances such as the vitro ceramic cooker, the oven which also doubles as a microwave, washing machine and dryer, fridge/freezer and dishwasher, all of which are top of the line. You will also find all of the comforts of home - such as a coffee maker, toaster and juicer - to make your visit to Barcelona easy and stress free. Bed linen, bathroom paper and clean towels are all provided.

Born

El Born is one of the trendiest neighbourhoods in Barcelona and has become even more so over the last few years, combining a perfect balance between historical treasures, culture and “coolness”; an area very much sought after by the locals as well as the visitors. This area also boasts some of the highest property prices in the city …. This wonderful neighbourhood is full of many great bars, cafes, restaurants and is especially great for one of a kind boutiques as well as other, very well known clothing brands, such as Custo. The Born area is in such a great location, close to the Old Port and the beach, it’s surrounded by all the other cool and interesting places in Barcelona such as Barrio Gotico, Barceloneta, Old Port and Via Laietana. The Park Ciutadella is also a quick 5 minute walk from this area, perfect for a long stroll after a lovely lunch in one of the many terraces the Born has to offer.

A main feature of this great area is the wonderful basilica Santa Maria del Mar, right in front of this magnificent landmark, Barcelona’s guests can enjoy tapas and wine and watch the world go by…Other spots not to miss include Paseo del Born which is full of great bars and makes this area a lively night spot; not far from here is the Picasso museum….. The Born also has it’s own market, Santa Catarina with it’s funky, bright coloured roof. And finally not to be forgotten is the fantastic Palau de la Musica, which is possibly the most dazzling work of modernist architecture present in Barcelona….
