A centrally located apartment right next to bustling Las Ramblas in Barcelona.

This well planned apartment has the advantage of being right next to Barcelona´s most famous landmark, Las Ramblas. Comfortably accommodating 7 persons, the apartment is a jewel in the heart of Barcelona where there is always hustle and bustle.

The area surrounding the apartment:

The Pollock II apartment is located next to undoubtedly the most cosmopolitan street of Barcelona, with the greatest diversity of people, passers-by, shoppers, tourists, civil servants, big shots, comedians, street musicians and night-birds. Just off La Rambla and about a five minute walk from the apartment, you'll find one of Europe's oldest (indoor) markets: 'El mercat de la Boqueria'. In this typically Spanish setting, you'll find locals as well as tourists looking for queso (cheese), serrano (ham) or aceitunas (olives) and the further in you get the more you feel the old Roman marketplace which used to exist back in the day. Venture further in and you´ll be amazed at the wonderfully varied fish market with colourful jovial women serving behind the counter. The metro stop Liceu is within easy walking distance from the apartment as well as one of the leading opera lyric houses in Europe the famous Gran Teatre del Liceu.

The apartment:

This wonderful apartment is located on the first floor of its building and is a wonderful choice for your visit to Barcelona. The feel and look of the apartment is stylish and rustic; full of colour and uniquely decorated any guest will feel welcome and at ease in this truly fantastic apartment. The Pollock II has been decorated with a blend of old and new elements, modern furniture blending with some one off pieces of art such as in the living room, the metal in the kitchen against the wooden beams, etc.

There are two other bedrooms and another full bathroom, ie, bath, toilet, sink, etc; the apartment comes with another half bathroom for the convenience of the guests. In the living room of the apartment comes with TV, DVD and a stereo so the guest can sit back and relax after a hard day of sightseeing and shopping or perhaps enjoy a glass of wine before heading out to one of the many great restaurants that Barcelona has to offer. This room has a wonderful feel to it and has been decorated to ensure the guests comfort during their stay. A wonderful feature of this aparmtent is that in many areas, such as the living room, some of the bedrooms and in the office like area of the aparmtent you will find some fantastic mosaic tile detailing on the floor. The Pollock II apartment comprises of 130m2, so you can be assured there is ample space for eveyone to feel comfortable.

The kitchen is brand new and has all the modern conveniences to make your visit a hassle free one; it comes with a large dining table, which is clean and modern in contrast with the wooden beams in the ceiling, but works very well with the other elements in the kitchen. Barrio Gotico

Barrio Gotico

The Barrio Gotico or Gothic Quarter is the heart of old town Barcelona and one of the best preserved medieval quarters in Europe, with various Roman remains to be found. The area itself is a body of pedestrian, interconnecting, narrow cobble stoned streets where you can wander around aimlessly for hours, taking in all the wonderful bars and cafes, restaurants and shops… as well as Barcelona’s very famous “La Catedral” (gothic cathedral) which is magnificent and a must see for all visitors. There is another very distinguished - but less visited Gothic church in this area also, the Santa Maria del Pi. The quiet and attractive Plaça del Pi in front of the church is filled with bars and restaurants with outside seating where a cup of coffee goes down well while watching the quirky street performers which congregate to entertain the visitors most days.

The Municipal government (Ajuntament) and Catalan regional government (Generalitat) are in this area standing opposite each other. Within walking distance from the Gothic Quarter are the famous Las Ramblas, the Liceu opera house, Barcelona City Hall in Placa Jaume, as well as the remains of the old Roman Walls coupled with many more treats from Barcelona's ancient and medieval past.

Plaça Reial is a well known spot, popular for it’s bars and restaurants and visitors can enjoy outdoor meals in one of the many eateries to be found, (beware of pickpockets!!)… Here we find the only work a young Gaudí designed for the city council, the Tres Gràcies fountain in the centre and lamp-posts around the plaza…

Although the Gotico is not as incredibly “cool” as the Born or as bohemian as the Raval, it is nonetheless an essential port of call.
