Everyone knows about Granada for its monuments, its charming districts and for its tapas, something that immediately springs to mind when you think of this Andalusian city. However, for those of you who are visiting Granada for the first time, we have prepared a mini guide of the most chilled-out clubs and bars in the city.

Granada is simply spectacular at this time of year especially for wandering around the Albaicín district whilst contemplating the Alhambra which rises majestically in red in contrast with the white of the Sierra Nevada in the backdrop. It is a stunningly beautiful thing to see in this enchanting city. Similarly, the cold from the Sierra Mountains contrasts with the sun that shines and lights up Granada thus allowing you to look at all the architecture dotted around the city centre, in Realejo, and in Albaicín.

Christmas is just around the corner, and there are only a couple of weeks left before families get together in the spirit of Christmas, and you can tell this by the festive atmosphere that reigns everywhere. Wandering around the streets in Granada at Christmas time transports you to a different world thanks to the lights, decorations, the Bib-Rambla market, and the Christmas carols that flood and encourage this Christmas spirit. In the city of the Alhambra, you can try delicious Andalusian Christmas cakes, and eat churros with chocolate for breakfast on New Years day made by numerous churrerias in the city, as well as enjoy the Kings’ Parade on the 5th of January and wait for presents from the Kings from the East. And what we can we say about the Sierra Nevada apart from spend the first day of the year skiing on the slopes on this snowy mountain that stretches majestically behind the Alhambra.

Winter has definitely arrived, the cold has set in and the good news for ski lovers is that the ski stations with their ports absolutely full of snow have opened, and in Granada’s case, the Sierra Nevada ski station has a series of new additions including improvements to their installations, and therefore the experience for skiers. If you are going to spend the December bank holiday weekend in Granada, we have some useful information for you with regards to going skiing as well as life in this beautiful city, because Granada isn’t just about the tapas that you will find there, but culture and leisure activities as well.

Granada has many attractions, whether it’s the tapas bar, its districts such as Realejo, Albaicin, or the centre of the most pure Renaissance and Baroque tradition. As we mentioned previously, on the 27th of November the ski season will be kicking off in the Sierra Nevada, this mountain range that stretches majestically behind the red monument that is the Alhambra, and the green of the Sabika hill where they practise winter sports which is a deep-rooted tradition in the life of the locals in Granada. With all the new additions introduced by the Sierra Nevada organisers, and the various family and student orientated discounts and facilities, this year the idea of passing a few days in Granada is even more attractive, not only to visit the beautiful city of Granada but to spend a couple of days doing your favourite sport, whether its skiing or snowboarding

On the 24th of November the ninth edition of the magical Hocus Pocus Festival will be celebrated in Granada. This exciting event has top acts on the national panorama lined up, in addition to the film “The Great Houdini” featuring Tony Curtis, and the presentation of “Alucine”, a tribute to the father of cinematography George Melies which was created by Mago Migue, the founder and organiser of the festival.

As you all know Granada has many attractions, and we’re not only referring to the red monument, the Alhambra, nor the districts with their narrow streets and their Renaissance and Baroque inheritance, but the immense Sierra Nevada. And now that winter has finally come the ski season is kicking off in the only ski resort in the south of Spain preparing for ski and snowboarding sports. In fact, the 27th of November is when they are planning the start of the winter season in the Sierra Nevada, and all the winter activities will be kicking for real with all types of novelties and special promotions with special emphasis on families and students.

We all know that Christmas is the best time of year, not only for the long family holidays that we can enjoy, but also the enormous quantity of food that we allow ourselves to eat, not to mention the highly alcoholic drinks, for those at the permitted age of course. On the 13th of November Granada, or the town of Huetor to be more precise, will be celebrating the GRX Festival, a multidisciplinary event where hip-hop music will be playing the star role, and where there also be cultural, artistic, and leisure activities. In honour of this festival, prestigious international artists will be attending such as Redman & Method Man, former members of the legendary group Wu-Tang, amongst other important bands.

All throughout the month of November, Granada will be celebrating their XXXI International Jazz Festival, a festival that over the past 30 years has become a reference for jazz music on the Spanish and European jazz scene given that it is one of the oldest and most important in Europe, and the only Spanish member of the European jazz festival network, the Europe Jazz Network.

Autumn is well and truly here, something inevitable, but it doesn’t mean that everything have to stop, as life continues in all its splendour. For Granada this couldn’t be more true as its cultural agenda is jam-packed full of events for all tastes.
